Because you're on our LA Green Grounds website, you must care about quality food in South Los Angeles. We want to be sure you know about our friends SoLA Food Co-op and encourage you to ensure their success by becoming members.
With our year round growing season, Los Angeles is a great place to have an edible garden, but we still shop for many items that we don’t grow. Wouldn’t it be great if there was a nearby store that specialized in organic products and foods? A place in the neighborhood that sold eco-friendly household products and safe body care products , and fresh organic produce, as well as bulk organic grains, coffee, oils, honey etc?
SoLA Food Co-op wants to be that store.
It’s a great idea, a cooperative grocery store would be owned by you and me. When there are profits, we would get a share of those profits according to our patronage of the store. We’d also have more of a say in what the store carries and how it’s run because we could vote for and/or run for a seat on the Board of Directors who govern the store. Basically SoLA will be a store owned by and for our community. Our co-op will help enrich our South LA community economically too, by keeping all those dollars that we currently spend elsewhere here in our own community. SoLA will source locally as much as possible and provide several jobs in our neighborhood too. A co-op is an all-around great solution for providing the healthiest options for ourselves and our families.
The SoLA Food Co-op is in the beginning phases of forming itself into a viable cooperatively organized business. It’s goal is to create a source for natural, organic, non-GMO food in South Los Angeles.
