Class attendees will learn the skills to start a home vegetable garden -- in a yard or on a patio or balcony in containers.

Classes are led by UC California Cooperative Extension Master Gardener volunteers. Those who complete the four-week program will become UC-Certified Victory Gardeners. Participants will learn by doing at the bountiful LA Green Grounds teaching garden. Join the legions of Angelenos who are growing their own delicious food.

WHEN: Classes run 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on four consecutive Sundays: Sept. 12, 19, 26 and Oct. 3.

WHERE: Our first class will meet online via Zoom and the final 3 will be held in person at LA Green Grounds, our teaching and demonstration garden at Carmona and Boden avenues, near the corner of Jefferson and Hauser, LA 90016. (Located near the Expo Metro Line.) Please keep in mind that conditions and requirements around the coronavirus could change, leading us to hold more classes by Zoom.

WHAT: Among the topics we will cover are where and what to plant, soil properties and care, irrigation, compost, garden insects, weeds, growing from seeds and seedlings, harvesting, what to do with what you grow and much more.

COST: The 4-week program is offered for $55, including a handbook and completion certificate. For those for whom the cost is a hardship, the program is offered for $25. Select reduced rate below. Register below using a credit card or PayPal.

WHAT TO BRING/WEAR: Wear sunscreen, a hat, and sturdy closed-toed shoes at the garden. Bring your completed Release of Liability*, a re-usable water container and a snack.

NOTE:

• All students must show proof of vaccination against the coronavirus; or show proof of a negative test result within 24 hours of class; or take a rapid test on site. Everyone must wear a mask and keep a safe distance from others.
• Upon registration you will be redirected to a Release form. You will also be sent an email confirmation with more information, and a link to a *Release of Liability. Please bring completed Release form with you to the garden (second session: 9/19).
