LAGG's observation of Dia de los Muertos is one way to show, share, and possibly explain an important cultural events/observations of different groups. LA is not really a melting pot, even though we have the greatest cultural, ethnic, racial diversity in the U.S., maybe in the world. Often people aren't familiar with important customs of other groups of people here.

Because LA Green Ground's founder's family lived in Michoacan for two years, Florence experienced the joy of that occasion, and also saw that people celebrated their departed. Whereas in America, it's often a sad remembrance occasion.

This year, we'll start prepping for the ofrenda on Saturday, Oct 26, and Wed Oct 30 (we're at the garden on Wednesdays and Saturdays, every week). We'll finish the Ofrenda by Friday Nov. 1 and have it up for about 4 days.

And Saturday, November 2, you are welcome to come and talk about your loved ones who are gone. We encourage you to tell funny stories about them too. Bring something for a potluck, chat, and eat from about 3 to 6pm. Bring a remembrance of your loved one who has left our earthly presence — a copy of their photo*, a  special belonging of theirs, their favorite food, etc.   We will be honoring them and all of our passed loved one during our observance of el Día de los Muertos. You can make paper flowers and add your memento for display that afternoon to the ofrenda we'll have set up. 

• Saturday 10/26 and Wednesday 10/30: Make ornaments for the ofrenda 
• Saturday 11/2, 3 to 6pm: Potluck & share personal stories and cultural traditions in appreciation to those who have passed and grow closer together.
